I wish though.

* Development of male sex characteristics (virilization), such as increased body hair, facial hair, a deepening of the voice, male-pattern baldness, and enlargement of the clitorus.
From all, I have serious facil hair... Always have, but it is getting worse and worse... I need to get rid of it every 3 to 4 days.

* Diabetes
Not at all... Just did another Glucouse test, and I have it in 80 something.

* Increased hair growth; body hair may be in a male pattern
My hair does grow a lot, and my body have gotten so weird, that you can say that I have a male pattern.

* Infertility
I do, but because I have a tubal.... LOL... this question doesnt apply to me as I have three kids. It did took me 21 months to conceive my second daughter, though.

* Poor response to the hormone, insulin (insulin resistance), leading to a build-up of insulin in the blood
I have no idea.

* Weight gain, or obesity
BADLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now or Now!

What have we done since out last post: NOTHING.... Well, nothing will be actually a lie depending on your side of view... We have done NOTHING in order to lose weight, but we have done A LOT of stuff that we are not suppose to.

To start we have been drinking coke just TOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!! I wont buy another soda anymore. Today, I found myself with a "hole" in my blouse between two buttons, because the breasts are just too BIG.......... AF is not due any time soon, so it is not because of that.

Hubby is also in the same path, and I speak from both when I say: NO MORE.

I have been going to the OB to check WHY Im still leaking milk (gross, I know) after 8 months of weaning my youngter, why I havent been able to lose weight when I was fully committed, and why Im sweating so much. I know that any person that reads all this will say: "You have an hormonal problem". Well, I know that for sure, and my OB thinks the same thing, but we are doing our last try with an ultrasound. Prolactine came back low (which is the normal value) so it is not there the problem. If nothing is found in the ultraound, meaning that I dont have PCOS anymore, he will refer me to an specialist.

My last ultrasound was a couple of months after my youngter's birth, and it showed that I had PCOS. It is pretty funny how I got pregnant so fast with PCOS and birth control, but when I child is meant to be, it will come over any obstacles.

Here is a picture of my FAT-self from last week (BTW, Im wearing a maternity jeans... Shame on me!!)

Day 104 = We can do it!

That's it... We are paired two by two, and every day we make points to see who gets the more points by the end of the week.

The Points are earned by:
2 points for each healthy meal (snacks not included). A healthy meal consists of no fried food and must include a fruit or a vegetable.
2 points for drinking a minimum of 64oz of water
2 points for each 25 minutes of exercise
2 points for each pound lost.

There is also a weekly challenge to earn 5 points. Here is the week challenge that finished last night:

(The challenge was posted by my friend Gus, so Im quoting her)

BICYCLE CRUNCHES! Start counting with the right leg and do as much as you can. One shot! Don't try to do it several times a day. You MUST bring those legs high.. otherwise do not think that you worked your abs and midsection. IF you put your feet on the floor, then stop counting and the challenge is done. So keep those feet up!
Please find bellow the instructions (thanks to sparkpeople). Enjoy!!!

Starting position
Begin by lying on your back, placing your hands behind your ears. Do not put your hands clasped behind your head. Lift your legs in the air and bend your knees so that your legs form a 90 degree angle.

Action
Move your legs in a bicycle motion. When your left knee is closer to your body, reach your right your elbow to it. When your right knee is closer to your body, reach your left elbow to it. Try performing the exercise for 60 seconds in 2 sets.

Muscles Worked:
Abs, Obliques

I couldnt do the challenge on time, so I was suppose to did it for ME today: Yeah right!! that is not going to happen!!! After I counted 7, I started feeling this AWFUL pain in my c-section incision... I had a vaginal birth with my first daughter in 2003, but I had a c-section in 2006 and another one in 2007. The one of 2007 was accompanied by a Tubal sterilization (cutting my tubes, not tying them)... Sometimes, I feel a bit of pain there, but today was awful!!! I certainly won't be trying that excercise soon.

If somebody that is reading, try to do it, please post a comment with how many you were able to do!!!

Day 36 = Weight in day!

Hubby didnt want to weight in this week, so, I will just be posting my weight in.

Me:

Starting weight: 189 pounds (85.9 kg)

Last weight in: 188 pounds (85.5 kg)

Today's weight: 185 pounds (84 kg)

Total lost so far: 4 pounds (1.81 kg)

Im VERY proud of ME!! lol

Day 31 = Still on track!!

Dont you guys dare to think that I forgot about this blog!!! Since the very first day I have been having trouble getting a music that actually helps me to keep moving. I keep telling myself that "The wheels on the bus", or "Old McDonald" wont help me to excercise, and as lame as it sounds that's the only kind of music that you can find easily in this house.

I have been excersising with whatever is on the radio. As Im normally excersising close to noon, it does get difficult when at noon the National Hymn starts to sound (yes, mostly every radio station plays the National Hymn at 12 noon everyday).

Since yesterday, my friend Gus have been sending me some music and now Im putting that music even to work!! I cant stop moving and I will be burning it in a CD so I can play it downstairs... Here are the titles of what I will be burning:

- Africanism Allstar - Summer Moon
- Benny Benassi - Sweet Dreams Remix
- Bob Sinclar - World Hold on
- David Guetta - The world is mine
- Jennifer Lopez - Waiting for tonite Techno Remix
- Kevin Little - Tempted to touch
- Madonna - Sorry
- Nelly Furtado - Promiscuous Girl
- Shakira - Hips Dont lie
- Stonebridge - Put 'Em High

The all get me moving, a few more than others, but all of them in general.

****************************

Steps:

Me: 11066 (my best day so far)

Hubby: 12117

Day 24 = The DVD's are here!!

Yes, the DVD's that we ordered finally are here!!! My two youngest were angels (ok, they were not, but you guys know what I mean), and they actually let me work with three card orders that I had. So, the good side is that my day was pretty productive and I made MONEY!! BUT, as I work designing cards SITTING down in the computer, it also means that I hardly walked!!

I didnt even do laundry today (which I normally do everyday), and that takes away lots of steps from me!! Hubby also had a quiet day at work today, and even tho it was a tiring day for his brain (he was working with ONE computer that was driving him crazy), it also meant that his steps count went low....

So, the counts from today are:

Me: 4044
Hubby: 7594

Shame on us!!!!!!!!!

Day 20 = Take Pictures

I know it's not a nice thing to do, but taking before and after pictures it's a "must do". Our goal is to take a picture every 4 weeks. Sometimes the scale doesnt move much, and even though it can be frustrating, sometimes we are just losing belly fat.

How do you know if you are really losing weight if the scale doesnt move: looking at yourself!! Not just going to be mirror and looking, but looking at pictures (front and side pictures) from before and after. As I said before, we will be taking pictures every 4 weeks, and even though we will be posting pictures with cloth, we will be taking pictures in underwear, just to REALLY see how we were and how we are getting....

So, dont get excuses and take pictures... If nobody can take a picture, just place yourself in front of a mirror and shoot!!

*****************************

Steps:
Me: 10002
Hubby: 9391

Day 19 = Counting the steps!

Today was our first full day with the pedometer.... We were excited but after trying them up, I got a bit disappointed. I mean, I wasnt expecting it to be 100% accurate, but I couldnt get a close cound either.

It says that sensitivity should be adjusted. So, in the instructions says that you need to walk 100 steps and count them. If it was over 105 to put it to the right, and if it was less than 95 to put it on the left... But I was getting reading as low as 43, and I was getting frustrated. After trying 10 thousand times, I could get 2 readings of 80, so I leave it like it.

Hubby's pedometer was reading way too many steps, even while driving!!! That one was pretty funny.: 412 steps while driving!!!

We have been very good with the elliptical and I reached 11.5 minutes today, while hubby is doing 15.

Day 17 = Weight in #2

With our broken scale we havent been able to weight in for the last two Fridays, but today I got a new scale for my birthday!!!! But, if you find working out to be uncomfortable or bothersome, you're less likely to continue it regularly. If you want to make your workout most effective and enjoyable, it's best to be ready. So, try preparing these seven items before you begin.

1. Comfortable Clothing - Wear something loose and comfortable, preferably in cotton, so that it will wick the sweat away from your body. Make sure that it's not too loose, though. It's important to ensure that your clothing can't get caught in any moving parts on your elliptical machine.

2. Appropriate Shoes - Even though an elliptical trainer workout provides a very low impact workout, it's important to wear good shoes. Be certain they have a proper fit, and are designed for exercise. Running shoes or cross trainers are probably your best bet.

3. Water - Keep a bottle of water handy. Drinking plenty of water is critical during your workout. As your body temperature rises during exercise, you sweat to keep your body cool. Sweating dehydrates your body, so you must replenish these fluids by drinking water. Experts recommend one glass of water every fifteen minutes. Many elliptical trainers have a built in spot for your water bottle.

4. A Towel - All that sweating will get pretty annoying if you don't have a towel handy. A small hand towel is just the right size to wipe your brow without getting in the way.

5. Upbeat Music - Music can be a great enhancement to your workout. Your elliptical machine is likely equipped with many gadgets to keep up with your pace, but fast-paced music can ensure that you keep moving at the right pace, too. Rather than having to monitor your pace, just keep to the beat! Then, when it's time to cool down, put on something slower and your body will slow down naturally.

6. A Comfortable Room Temperature - Make sure the room you're exercising in is comfortable. Too hot and you'll sweat more than necessary, and too cold and you'll feel chilled when you start to sweat. Around 74?F is comfortable for most people.

7. A Clear Mind - Relax and enjoy your workout. Use this time on your elliptical trainer to de-stress mentally, rather than dwelling on bothersome issues. A few minutes out of your day to work your body and clear your mind can work wonders. When you're finished, you will feel refreshed and ready to take on all your challenges, both mental and physical.

Your new elliptical trainer is a great investment in your fit and healthy future. Assembling everything you need to have a great workout in advance will keep you ready to go whenever your workout time comes. Being prepared will make you less likely to skip your workout, and make it more fun.

Working out with the Elliptical

I was browsing around for ideas to work out on the Elliptical machine. I notice that most of the sites actually gives the same suggestions about time and intensity.

One of the common advices was already given by my mom (ex exercise junkie) was that for 2 weeks just to try it for 5 minutes at the time with no intervals. For somebody with our exercise level, I think that was very reasonable suggestion, so we decided to try it out. So, I did my 5 minutes and I can say that it wasnt easy. It did let me full of energy, but reaching those 5 minutes were not easy. Then, hubby went ahead for his 5 minutes, and when he was done he realized that he was able to do more, so he went up to 10 minutes!!! we both felt great, and the girls took advantange of the music we put on to made us dance for a bit. Curious how one of my comments the other day from my friend Gus was to dance with them, because we do that a lot.

As hubby and I are trying to lose A LOT of money mostly relying on the Elliptical, we can just let it away with 5 or 10 minutes for 2 weeks. We are young, and even though we are overweight, we know our bodies can do more than that. So, we will be increasing the time each day, and we will be doing it two times a day.

Here are the schedules that I made for the first two weeks. Ernesto will have every day just 5 minutes in the morning because he has to leave the house for work at 7:00am, and after sleepless nights with the girls sometimes things get difficult, so for now, he will just do 5 minutes before taking a shower.... As I stay home, my schedule will be mostly the same at both times, even though my goal is just to do it in the morning, so, as Im going reaching 20 minutes, I started to decrease the amount at night).

Day 14 = Wordless

This picture of my living room worth more than whatever I was going to write today:

Day 13 = We need to exercise!!

This is getting old already!!! For some reason my elliptica is always coming "tomorrow" but the tomorrow never is the next day!!!! I wish I could just shrink it and put it in my car and bring it home!!!

Following the calories as they are is pretty hard. I never imagine it was going to be so difficult!!! Especially since it's so long because we are not exercising yet. I mean, I do go up and down the stairs at least 3 times in one hour, sometimes more, but I need more!! Plus hubby, doesnt go up and down the stairs much because he works as a computer teacher from 8am to 3pm, so he is mostly in his computer lab.

I also received a notification from Amazon, and the "Biggest Winner" it's on the way already!! Im so happy because it said that is was going to be from 1 to 3 weeks to leave the wearhouse, and it took it 10 days (at least it wasnt the 3 weeks, right?).... Also, I cant wait to pick up the pedometers!! Im sooo excited!!! Im sure with the pedometers the real competition between hubby and I will start!!!

****************************

With the help of the Calorie calculator:

Me:
Calories allowed: 1600
Calories from today: 1915

Hubby:
Calories allowed: 1900
Calories from today: 1915

Day 12 = Knowing your daily calorie limit

I knew there was something weird about the calories allowed from the calorie calculator.... Browsing around I realized I have BOTH calories counter with a wrong limit. I think that it doesnt matter what kind of method you are using to lose weight, we all need to watch our calories.

I received one of the daily newsletter that I get from SparkPeople, and it says that I need to consume between 1330 and 1680 calories per day, not up to 1981 as I had before. This now makes sense. It was being so easy to stay under 1981, and I know that now it's going to be way more difficult to keep it lower.

After googling around a lot, I reach to the conclusion that my calorie intake each day have to be less than 1600 (hubby should be less than 1900)... If you dont tell people, your family and friends, will sabotage your efforts without knowing. I mean, last Sunday, my mom came with Pizza. Yesterday, my uncle came with chinesse food and ice cream, and today my mom came with pizza again!! I mean, she knows we are trying to lose weight, but she called and asked if we had dinner, we said no, and she offered herself to invite us food. The easiest and fastest thing to order is pizza, so pizza it was.

So, I ate two slices and hubby ate three. I didnt even enjoy it because it makes me feel guilty. From now on, we are going to try to TELL PEOPLE, to TELL EVERYBODY, and to try to get them to respect what we are doing. During dinner, and yesterday during lunch with my uncle, we talked about how we are trying to eat healthier, so it may work.

********************************

From the Calorie calculator:
Me:
Calories allowed: 1981
Calories from today: 1905

Hubby:
Calories allowed: 2621
Calories from today: 2350

Day 10 = More tentations

Tentations are everywhere. Today, one of my uncles, came to my house with chinesse food and ice cream. It was a really sweet gesture of him, so we were not going to make him feel bad. I didnt eat much, but hubby did. I have never been crazy about sweets, but sometimes I eat the girls leftovers, which I know I should stop.

I just found out that the pedometers will be ready to pick up Tuesday or Wednesday!! We got the big scare of our lives, and even though pre-eclampsia doesnt mean that I will have high blood pressure after pregnancy, I do know that being overweight makes me high risk. Hubby has also had a few scares with blood pressure and we both know it's because of his weight.

When I lost weight, I did it because I realized that I needed to change my lifestyle. It was not just a matter of doing a diet to lose weight; it was to make the commitment of being healthier, and the weight lost was just a consecuence of that. I know a couple who is overweight, and they lost a lot of pounds with a "Everything Fried" diet. I couldnt find a link for it, but what's the deal with losing weight, but not being healthy?? I love them both to pieces, but I think that weight lost and healthy eating should be together.

The tech came a couple of days ago and checked my fridge. He needs to take it to his place, so he will come back next Tuesday for that. We have been surviving with our micro-freezer, but the girls stuff take a lot of the little space it has.

********************************
From the Calorie calculator:

Me:
Calories allowed: 1981
Calories from today: 1615

Hubby:
Calories allowed: 2621
Calories from today: 2150

Day 8 = Weighting ourselves

Today is suppose to be weight in day. We havent been able to go scale shopping after my oldest daughter broke our new scale last week, but we will try to do it this weekend. As we want to be strict with our weight-in day AND time, we wont be weighting ourselves until next Friday.

This weekend we are finally going to pick up my elliptical machine at my mom's house, and we will be exercising hard everyday!!!

Next Friday (together with weight in day), we will start measuring ourselves too.

*******************************

From the Calorie calculator:

Me:
Calories allowed: 1981
Calories from today: 1998

Hubby:
Calories allowed: 2621
Calories from today: 1998

Day 7 = Meet our best friend: Mr. Water

Water, water and water, is the three things that we are drinking in this house. No juice, no sodas, no alcoholic beverages, nada. Just plain water.

As I mentioned I have been addicted to Coke since the last few months, and I just found out today the reason. I have been having these horrible headaches with nausea, and it never occurred to me that maybe I just suffer from migraine. A friend of mine was telling me how she takes caffeine for it, and everything felt into place. The reason why I have been drinking coke, is because as soon as I take an extra cold glass of coke, my headache goes away! This may sound silly for some, but that never went through my mind.

As Im just taking water, my days have been miserable with the pain, so we will have to find another way to consume caffeine. I will make an appointment for the doctor next week, and I will try to find healthy solutions for my problem.

The truth is that we NEED water. Every living creature needs water. Every single system in our body depends on water. This means that when you don’t get enough water, your body cant function properly. The question is: How much water do I need? There is no a general answer for that question. Every person needs a different amount of water depending in lots of factors.

I was browsing around to find out how much water do we need and I found out that an adult urine around 1.5 liters a day, and lose around 1 liter through breathing, sweating and bowel movements. In order to replace those lost fluids, an adult need to take around 8.5 glasses of water, together with a good balanced food. In addittion to this as we are excersising (and will be doing more starting next week), we need to take around 3 extra cups or water. Another factor is that we live in the Caribbean with hot temperature all year long. So, we need an extra water for that (hubby needs a bit more because she spents more time on the sun).

Conclusion:
- Me: 2.5 liters equivalent to 10.5 glasses of water

- Hubby: 3.5 liters equivalent to almost 15 glasses of water

*************************

From the Calorie calculator:

Me:
Calories allowed: 1981
Calories from today: 2101

Hubby:
Calories allowed: 2621
Calories from today: 2512

Calories from Day 6

From the Calorie calculator:

Me:
Calories allowed: 1981
Calories from today: 1898

Hubby:
Calories allowed: 2621
Calories from today: 1898

Day 6 = A banana a day keeps the doctor away

I got an eamil about all the good things about bananas.... I couldnt just ignore it, so Im passing it along. It's a long one, but it's worth the reading. A professor at CCNY for a physiological psych class told his class about bananas. He said the expression 'going bananas' is from the effects of bananas on the brain. Read on:

Never, put your banana in the refrigerator!!!

This is interesting!! After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again.
Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes. But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school (England ) were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a 'cooling' fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking &Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes: According to research in The New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape!

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, 'A banana a day keeps the doctor away!'

Note: Bananas must be the reason monkeys are so happy all the time! And dirty shoes? want a quick shine on our shoes?? Take the INSIDE of the banana skin, and rub directly on the shoe...polish with dry cloth. Amazing fruit !!!

Calorie count from day 5

From the Calorie calculator:

Me:
Calories allowed: 1981
Calories from today: 2104

Hubby:
Calories allowed: 2621
Calories from today: 1914

Im really sad that I ate over my calories, but it is really difficult to eat healthy when your fridge is broken.. I used to play soccer, softball, basket, volley, tracks, and I was one of the best players of each sport. We were young, we were healthy, we were happy.

5 years later, we decided to joined our lives forever and even though we were not as fit as we used to be, we were still fine. I needed to loose 5 pounds and he needed to loose 10 pounds.

I few months later I got pregnant with my first child. I wasnt letting myself out, but I wasnt on veggies all day long. I was eating like a normal pregnant woman, without over doing it. Hubby on the other hand started eating and eating and eating. He had a symphaty pregnancy, with nausea, headaches, and of course CRAVINGS! I started retaining liquids and he kept eating. I went from 128 pounds to 188 pounds! We never knew exactly how much he gained but it was probably around 60 pounds too.

We never lost what we gained with that pregnancy! After we moved to Dominican Republic we started a few diets programs and nothing happened. I was still retaining liquids, and I manage to loose 10 pounds for the first time around 1 year and a half later. The following month I found out I was pregnant again!! I manage to only gain 29 pounds this time, and 4 weeks after giving birth I lost 34 pounds with the South Beach diet. Hubby also lost around 20 pounds.

5 months later I got pregnant AGAIN!! This time I managed to gain around 17 pounds (cant remember exactly but I remember it was more than 15 but less than 20). After giving birth, I lost those pounds, and I was steady in 175 pounds.
In the last few months we have been eating and eating like crazy. I have never been addicted to sweets, but I have been wanting sweets, especially vanilla crackers. Also we have been drinking too much coke!!
As I had a tubal, I wont get pregnant again, so this is OUR YEAR, to become healthier parents, and healthier couple.
